Cuyuna Lakes Trails Are Ready for YOU in 2013 Biking & Hiking!
The Cuyuna Lakes Trail Association exists to promote, create, and maintain paved bicycling trails connecting various communities in and around the area known formerly as the Cuyuna Iron Range.
Biking, Mountain Biking, In-Line Skating (or Roller Blading), Running, Walking, Skiing, Hiking, Geo-Caching, Hunting and Fishing activities are all available in the Cuyuna State Recreation Area!
Cuyuna Lakes Paved Trail
The Cuyuna Lakes Trail is a paved trail project underway to connect the communities of Aitkin, Cuyuna Lakes and Brainerd. Locally, the Cuyuna Lakes Trail extends from Crosby to Riverton.
This is an exceptionally scenic route through the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area where it offers beautiful views of crystal clear lakes and connects to the world class mountain bike trails.
There are also paved segments of the Cuyuna Lakes Trail in Aitkin and Brainerd. In Brainerd the trail joins the Paul Bunyan Trail.
Mississippi River Trail
The Cuyuna Lakes Trail also offers a route for the Mississippi River Trail. The MRT is the nationally designated bikeway that will follow off-road trails and roadways from Lake Itasca to New Orleans. The communities of Aitkin, Cuyuna Lakes and Brainerd have combined to be host cities for the Mississippi River Trail.
Cuyuna Lakes Trail Association
The Cuyuna Lakes Trail Association is a non profit advocasy organization that has been working since 2001 to promote the trail connection of these communities. The Cuyuna Lakes Trail began as a Blandin Leadership project to create an enhanced sense of identity, a healthier lifestyle and a stronger economy for all the communities along its route.
Besides direct donations, one of the main ways the Cuyuna Lakes Trails Association raises funds for this effort is with the Tour of Cuyuna Bicycle Ride. The annual ride is scheduled for early September each autumn. Beginning and ending at Ruttger Bay Lake Lodge, this tour offers routes of 40 and 70 miles through beautiful lakes country.
The Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area is under development at this time. Certain activities are restricted until planned facilities are completed. Please call the CCSRA office before planning a visit for up-to-date availability of resources at (218) 546-5926.
With local help and support, a dream to create the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail was born; its purpose being to preserve and yet share the recreation area, encouraging a variety of outdoor recreational activities.
The CLTA believes that, when completed, this trail network will create an enhanced sense of identity and unity for the communities involved.
Please give your resources the respect they deserve, thank you!
